Located at the level of the old level crossing on the D.559 at the western entrance of the town, near the castle of La Pascalette, seat of the Kommandantur, and at the precise spot from which the African commandos left to attack the blockhouses of Mauvanne, this sign reminds us that the place called "La Pascalette" was a strategic place for the liberation of La Londe.
While the Germans occupied the rest of the territory, on 15 December 1942, an Italian detachment of the 7th Lupi di Toscana infantry division under the orders of colonel Bellucci took up residence at the château de la Pascalette and at La Désirade. However, the situation in Italy deteriorated.
On 25 July 1943 the Italian Fascist High Council forced Mussolini to resign.
On 5 September the Lupi di Toscana division was about to leave La Londe, but the Germans took over La Pascalette and La Désirade.
The 1st Battalion of the 198th Infantry Regiment of the Wehrmacht occupied the village and set up the "Kommandantur" in the château de la Pascalette.
Marcel Kafi, 17 years old, from London, was also required to go to the château de la Pascalette. He had to prepare defence sites and clean the surroundings of the bunkers built under the pine trees.
A few months before the landing, he is approached by the resistance to steal gunpowder. Quickly suspected, he hid in La Garde-Freinet.
In this same place, location of the level crossing of the coastal train, the American tanks were stopped on August 18th, by large calibre fire coming from the Mauvanne sector.
