

Situated at the gateway to the Cavalerie district, Place Lamartine is a landmark in the city of Arles. It is notably the site of Vincent Van Gogh's yellow house.
At the center of the square is an impressive sculpture by artist Bernar Venet. This artistic work adds a modern, abstract dimension to the square's historic atmosphere. The creation of artist Bernar Venet, who is today a central figure on the international art scene. Donated to the city of Arles, it was installed on April 24, 2024 in the center of Place Lamartine. The work is made up of 13 Corten steel arches, each 27 metres long and weighing a total of 48 tonnes. Its installation was made possible by patron Théodore Schneider, who is lending it to the city of Arles for a period of at least 10 years.
