The bridge of La Mariée was originally built for the passage of a tramway. Today it is a tourist attraction in the Gorges de Daluis, and a famous bungee jumping site near Nice.
This railway viaduct was built at the beginning of the 20th century to allow the passage of the tramway line linking the communes of Pont de Geydan and Guillaumes. This arch bridge is one of the first reinforced concrete bridges in France.
The Bridal Bridge takes its name from a true and tragic story. On July 30, 1927, a young couple on their honeymoon in Guillaumes decided to visit the gorges at the end of the day. They stopped at the first bridge they met on the road, then called the Tramway Bridge. The young bride leaned over to admire the view and fell into the gorge. The thesis of the accident was privileged, but the mysterious circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the young woman have long maintained the rumors.
The bridge of the Bride is today forbidden to the traffic of the vehicles. It attracts every year many visitors, eager to admire the grandiose panorama of the Gorges de Daluis, or to live the unique experience of a bungee jump of a little less than 80 meters.
