Mairie Annexe, Place Jean Jaurès, La Cadière-d'Azur
Appeared in the eleventh century, the word prud'homme comes from a valiant man or prode man, preux and prode coming from the same Latin root prode derived from the Latin verb prodesse "to be useful". Since the beginning, they intervene in the conflicts inside the corporations.
They were "defenders of the profession" who intervened if a conflict arose between artisans, it was decided by their peers: the prud'hommes. The arbitration sessions were held in this place.
