Place de l’Église, 84470 Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne
Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church is in roman style. Originally located within the walls of the feudal castle.
Former castle chapel of the lords of Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne, the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church was then a priory of the Saint-Ruf College in Montpellier. It retains elevations characteristic of Provencal Romanesque art from the 12th century. Partly built during the 17th century, it took on its final appearance in the 18th century and in the 19th century. Saint-Jean-Baptiste, patron saint of the village, has been the object of constant devotion here over the centuries. In addition, the building retains, in addition to its original high altar, the beautiful 17th century carved stone decoration of the funeral chapel of its lords.
