The Saint John Perse Foundation conserves and exhibits the collections bequeathed to the city of Aix en Provence in 1975 by the poet who was awarded the Nobel prize for literature in 1960.


Alexis Leger, a leading European diplomat, was born in Pointe à Pitre, Guadeloupe, in 1887 and died in Giens in 1975 he is better known by the pen-name Saint John Perse. These collections comprise more than 15,000 documents.
