Oratory of Saint John
Read moreShow less
John is considered Christ's favorite Apostle and is often called the Lord's beloved. He was one of the three Apostles (along with Peter and James) who went up the mountain of Thabon to witness the "transfiguration". He is called John the Apostle or John the Evangelist to distinguish him from John the Baptist. He is credited with the Gospel that bears his name, the "Fourth Gospel". He is often symbolized by an eagle because the prologue of his gospel was attributed to a voice descending from heaven.
He is invoked against burns, for having come out of the boiling oil vat in Rome unscathed. He protects from poison and contagious diseases. He is celebrated on December 25th.
