Chapel of the old Jesuit novitiate built at the beginning of the 17th century.
A novitiate of the Society of Jesus was founded in 1589, twenty-five years after the congregation had moved to Avignon, and construction of the chapel began in 1601, with consecration taking place ten years later. Jesuit architect Etienne Martelange is said to have drawn up the plans. The building introduced a new Italian aesthetic to a city dominated by medieval architecture, with a dome overhanging the central part of the church.
