Formerly the chapel of the Grands-Augustins convent, Saint-Césaire is still the only consecrated church in the Roquette district.

Built in the Southern Gothic style, it dates from the mid-15th century, but was modified several times, particularly in the 19th century. It houses the tomb of Quiqueran de Beaujeu, Grand Prior of the Order of Malta in the 17th century.

Its vocation as a seafarers' parish is reflected in some of the works it contains, some of which come from the district's other two former parish churches, Saint-Laurent and Sainte-Croix. Its dedication to Saint-Césaire, bishop of Arles in the 6th century, only dates back to 1839, when it was restored to worship. The building was originally constructed in 1450 in the Southern Gothic style.

The facade, modified in the 19th century, shows clearly on its side wings the removal of two bays of the church during a fire in the 17th century. Near the church, the remains of the Grands-Augustins cloister can still be seen. Inside, the building comprises a four-bay nave with pointed arches, flanked by side chapels. The choir, transformed in the early 19th century, is covered by an octagonal dome with lantern (17th century).

The church salvaged some of the furnishings from the other two churches in the district, which were abolished during the Revolution. At the back of the choir, for example, is the former high altar painting of Saint-Laurent, painted by Trophime Bigot in 1638.

Saint-Césaire is the only church in Arles to retain its original floor tiles with coats of arms and funeral epitaphs. In 1866, the building was fitted with a gallery organ in the nave, by François Mader, the only usable organ in Arles today. Replacing an earlier instrument, it features a neo-Gothic case with three turrets and pinnacles. The stained glass windows bear the inscription Guilbert d'Anelle, 1875, Avignon.
