The stele was erected in 1921 by the mayor of Carqueiranne, Jacques Richet, in honor of Charles Richet père, a humanist scientist, and Albert Richet fils, an air officer who died in combat.
The stele erected at Peno Point in 1921 brings together in a single tribute engraved in stone: the father, a scientist and humanist, who took part in the genesis of aviation in France by launching a steam-powered flying machine over the waves in 1896 and 1897, and the son, a glorious pilot who died in combat.
The stele reads:
"Here was launched in May 1896 and June 1897, a first aeroplane by Charles Richet and Victor Tatin, in the presence of Albert Richet, then an aviator officer, who died for France in the battle of Anizy-le-Château, August 29, 1918.
