In the light of archaeological research, the first Pennois settled as early as the 3rd century B.C. some 2.5 km west of our chief town, on the oppidum of Teste-Nègre.

Ruins of Teste-Negre Oppidum. Remains of dwellings from the La Tène period, inhabited by the Ligurians. There is no longer any access to this site.
