To allow his sick wife to attend services, Georges Espinassi de Venelle, captain from Signes, had a chapel built in the Vernette estate he had just acquired.
Despite the opposition of the anticlerical mayor, he obtained the authorization of the prefect (and even the President of the Republic!) to celebrate worship there. The chapel is dedicated to the Sacred Heart and is always a private property.
