The Chapel of the White Penitents, dating from the 16th century, is located in the old village of Eygalières.
The Chapel of the White Penitents was built on the north-east rampart at the end of the 16th century by the ‘Pénitents Blancs du Saint Esprit’ brotherhood (a Catholic lay brotherhood). Its mid-18th-century bell tower, offset from the axis of the nave, and the use of one of the old surrounding towers as a sacristy, give it a surprising architectural style.
Abandoned and ruined at the end of the 19th century, it was restored in the 20th century.
Since 1967, it has housed the Maurice Pezet Museum of Local History.
The interior of the chapel is accessible during Museum opening hours, and during the European Heritage Days.
