The museum was founded in 1859 by Henri Chrestian. The items go through the span of the four periods of history of France on the local scale except the mummy brought from Egypt by an inhabitant from Sault. The museum contains also fossils and a mineralogical collection.

Founded in 1859, the municipal Museum in the town of Sault displays works from pre-historic times, the Gallo-Roman and the Medieval periods. There are also mineralogy collections a mummy and Egyptian artefacts, weapons and a series of paintings by local artist Evariste de Valernes. A lovely library with a parchment on the area. There is Diderot's Encyclopaedia, and ancient works. Under the auspices of the department of Vaucluse. Open in July and August.
