The Via Julia Augusta linked Rome to Gaul by the coast. Created by the emperor Augustus in 15 BC, it is famous in many ways and is now one of the great tourist routes of the region.
Farmers, breeders, traders, conquerors, the Romans were also great builders, with a characteristic road know-how. As a condition for their future growth, the development of land routes was a strategic issue for them. After the Via Domitia, the oldest road in France, it was the Via Julia Augusta that linked Rome to Gaul by the coast. Created by the Emperor Augustus in 15 BC, it is famous in more ways than one, and today forms one of the great tourist routes of the region.
