Le Village de Sault, 84390 Sault
Nature serves as a backdrop to this village, established on a rocky promontory in the 11th century to protect against the threat of invasions. This fief became autonomous in the 13th century and expanded into a prosperous county during the 16th century.
Sault overlooks a vast, cultivated plain with lavender, lavandin and small spelt, offering a unique patchwork of colours during the summer.
The village's rich history is highlighted on a themed walk called “An hour in the footsteps of the wolf” *. Visitors will discover the three remaining towers of the former medieval castle, remnants of the ramparts, narrow streets with evocative names (Esquiches mouches, Rompe-Cul) and the church of Notre Dame de la Tour, built in the early 12th century and listed as a historic monument.
The two recently restored washhouses in the historic centre, Saint Marc and Porte Royale, are part of a new itinerary that connects all six of Sault’s washhouses *.

The municipal museum, one of the oldest in the region, opens its doors in the summer. Like a cabinet of curiosities, it exhibits treasures as varied as they are interesting including an original edition of Diderot and Alembert's Encyclopedia, numismatic and Egyptian collections, including a mummy, lapidary inscriptions, a herbarium, minerals, and fossils…

“La MicroFolie,” a more recent museum inaugurated in 2022, offers visitors a fresh approach with various dedicated spaces, including a digital museum, a virtual reality area, and a shared space for games.

The village’s many shops are part of a new sound trail—an unusual musical journey exploring the local economy and the daily lives of its inhabitants. pharealucioles.org/les-pastilles-sonores/
