Built in 1884 on the initiative of Friedrich Mader, a Lutheran pastor from Nice, Villa Alpina was initially the family's holiday home. They moved permanently to Tende around 1905, and the villa became a Protestant place of worship.
During the First World War, the building was confiscated from the German Mader family.
