Avenue des Mexicains, 04850 Jausiers
Built in 1892 at the entrance to Jausiers, aligned with the Villa des Fleurs, the villa commissioned by Jean-Baptiste Laugier, a former merchant in Mexico, stands out for its impressive painted décor, which adorns both the interior and exterior of the building.
The exterior still bears visible traces of abundant geometric decoration executed in trompe-l'oeil by artists from neighbouring Piedmont.

The rooms on the ground floor, which house the service areas and reception rooms, retain the richest decorations.

The painted decoration in the salon, which ‘concentrates the wealth and representative elements of the villa’, is particularly ambitious. In a skilfully compartmentalised Pompeian-style composition, the major arts are represented: Painting, Music, Architecture and Sculpture.

Surmounted by an imposing mirror with a gilded frame, the fireplace is made of onyx. The room retains its original drapes and tapestry. With its Louis XV furniture, the large drawing room formed a stereotypical decorative ensemble, characteristic of the bourgeois taste of the late 19th century, against which Art Nouveau reacted, proposing a renewed unity of style.

The dining room, unsurprisingly, features Henri II furniture, centred around a two-piece sideboard, which was very popular at the time.

The painted ceiling features a linear pattern extending from the central rosette, from which hangs a large chandelier, ending at the corners with a naturalistic motif combining flowers and fruit.

This naturalistic style also characterises the ceiling of the vestibule, which is decorated along its entire length with bouquets of flowers painted in delicate pastel shades.
