Built in 1911 on Avenue de la Libération for Joseph Jacques (associated with the Clemente Jacques stores in Mexico City), Villa Le Châtelet was designed by Grenoble-based architects Joseph Morard and Marius Bonnat.
It replicates the architectural style introduced to the valley by Francis Girard, halfway between the ever-popular picturesque eclecticism and the more rational designs that emerged in the years immediately before the war. Le Châtelet thus faithfully reproduces the design of Villa L'Abri, completed a year earlier, in a simplified decorative version. Finishing touches such as dormer windows and ironwork on the veranda were kept to a minimum.
