Come to the smallest village in the Vaucluse, on the northern flank of Mont Ventoux.
Lost in dense vegetation, the former papal dependency will charm you with its houses, huddled against one another on the side of « Bluye » mountain, amidst the impressive scenery of the valley.
Along the road, you’ll notice an old clock under a little roof. There you will find a fountain, where a fresh spring flows. The fountain is flanked by a curious oval wash-house dating back to 1880.
In the middle of this miniature village, is the church of St. Leger, with its simple exterior. It still retains a picturesque decor on the inside, painted in the 19th century.
On the way out of the village, St. Basil’s Chapel, built in the 17th century, overlooks the Toulourenc. Pilgrims used to come here to cure their babies of cradle cap.
Saint-Léger is renowned for its legendary cliff, the Falaise de la Baleine (cliff of the whale). A rock climbing mecca, with more than 80 available routes of varying difficulty to climb.
You can walk along the hiking circuit bordering the base of the cliff. Hikers will discover the narrow gorges of this section of the Toulourenc.
Saint-Léger-du-Ventoux is the sunniest village in the valley, and rich in natural springs.
