This medieval village is spread out over a mountain crest, from which it gets its name. It is dominated by the towering ruins of one of the oldest castles of the Comtat.
For a closer look at this village, park your vehicle in the small square of the old town and wander through the steep cobblestone streets.

Having passed by the lovely covered wash-house, fed by the overflow of the fountain above, you will arrive at St Sauveur (St Saviour) church. Partially underground, it opens onto a picturesque little square featuring a fountain with an octagonal basin, dating from the 16th century.

Continue your climb to the castle, while observing the facades with their Renaissance-style windows.

On the esplanade stands the medieval castle, private property, restored by renowned French architect, Roger Anger.

Be sure not to leave Crestet without having enjoyed the magnificent view of the Dentelles de Montmirail and the famous Mont Ventoux.

For the athletically-inclined, you can explore one of the local hiking trails across the mountain and discover the landscapes of the region.

NOT TO BE MISSED
The chapel of the Annunciation, below the wash-house, was restored in 2009. The restoration of this chapel, dating back to 1545 was thanks to donations from the association “Friends of Crestet.” The murals that adorn it date back to the 16th century.

VILLAGE SECRET
Have fun looking for the sculptures by Durieux in the village streets : grimacing heads, statues of Bacchus, a bishop, and other fanciful evidence left behind by this contemporary artist who exhibited at the 1937 World’s Fair in Paris, and who lived in Crestet.
