With her mother leaving on a mission in Africa, Xian finds herself in the care of her father, who runs a small photo studio in Harbin, in northern China. There, the 15-year-old girl meets his partner's daughter, Mingmei, a free and attractive young woman of Korean origin who fascinates her. This summer marks the beginning of her troubling adolescent desires.
