For this 7th Monday conference, we propose to address the subject of tourism in the mountains, with Mickael Chambre, professor and scientific coordinator. He will be present to discuss this topic, on transition and conflicts.
The adaptation of tourism models to socio-environmental crises is a source of conflict. In the Alps, climate change is occurring on average twice as fast as in the rest of the northern hemisphere.

The lack of snow, pressures and issues such as tourist over-visitation, mountain development, access to housing, sharing of water resources, etc... On these questions, interests and points of view diverge.

Should we move from a system of attractiveness to a system of mountain territories' ability? What answers can we imagine? And what if, contrary to popular belief, conflicts were fruitful in building this transition?

Mikaël Chambru is a lecturer in social sciences at the University of Grenoble Alpes and scientific coordinator of the Labex ITTEM (Laboratory of Excellence for Innovation and Territorial Transitions in Mountains). His research work focuses on the publicizing of science, public controversies and socio-environmental mobilizations in mountain territories.
