Roman emperors from this region, the last bastion against the “Barbarians”. This title is borrowed from Lucien Jerphagnon to evoke the Roman emperors whose region of origin was far from the Tiber. In the last third of the 3rd century AD, the situation of the Roman Empire was particularly worrying, with “barbarian” peoples threatening the Empire on its borders; the financial and economic situation was poor.
