Created in 1927 and classified as a nature reserve in 1975, the Camargue National Nature Reserve covers 13,200 hectares in the heart of the Camargue.
Its vast, contiguous territory, located in the communes of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Arles (Bouches-du-Rhône), is fully protected and is one of the largest wetland reserves in Europe. The originality and international heritage interest of the RNN de Camargue lies in the diversity of its habitats and the species that occupy them, as well as in its ecological functioning.
