MPG2019 : Get your fill of Provence Gastronomy this summer!

Giant cookery classes in Marseille, food trucks, open-air cinema in Aix and wine tasting at the region’s most beautiful vineyards – and that’s just for starters! This summer, the MPG2019 Gastronomic Year in Provence festival promises a plethora of out-of-this-world culinary experiences. To prolong the pleasure, head to the Cooksound Festival in Forcalquier, dedicated to cuisine and Afro-American music.

Le Grand Jardin, Marseille

MGP2019 Festival Opening

The venue for the launch of MPG2019, Le Grand Jardin promises a festive weekend bringing together gastronomy and culture fans from the world over. From June 28th to 30th, the Grand Halle open-air market will be setting up shop around the city’s Old Port. On the menu: exhibitions, meetings with local producers, tasting sessions, kids’ corners and, of course, the many and varied culinary worlds of Provence, with flavours from the Alpilles, Camargue and Mediterranean coast. In parallel, Lionel Lévy, Head Chef of Marseille’s prestigious InterContinental hotel, will be climbing on stage to head up a giant cookery class for no less than 1,000 participants! Head over to Rue de la République too while you’re in town, to check out the many pop-up restaurants and stores on offer.

Summer moments in Aix, Open-air cinema

Savour a picnic or tasty meal on the hop from a food truck while catching a good film in the bucolic atmosphere of Aix-en-Provence‘s parks and gardens“Les Instants d’Eté” promises to be good enough to eat! If you want to be in on the fun, head to the Pavillon Vendôme, Parc Rambot, Parc de la Bastide at Le Jas de Bouffan, patio of Musée Granet and Parc du Château de l’Horloge, to enjoy screenings of the American comedy “Chef” directed by Jon Favreau and starring Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr and Dustin Hoffman, plus a host of other great movies.

Wine & Jazz in the Vines

MPG2019 isn’t just about tempting Provencal food! The festival also throws the spotlight on the region’s fabulous wines… For three days, you can relish a glass or two while lapping up some jazz vibes at three of the region’s most beautiful vineyards: Château d’Estoublon in Fontvieille (July 8th), Château La Coste in Puy-Sainte-Réparade (July 9th) and the Domaine Viticole in Cassis (July 10th). Keyboard king Jacky Terrasson promises to fire up audiences with his covers and original compositions.

Cooksound Festival

Food and sound in Forcalquier

Provence gastronomy with a musical twist awaits you at the Cooksound Festival from July 18th to 21st. Set in Forcalquier, in the stunning Alpes-de-Haute-Provence area, the history-packed 11th-century Couvent des Cordeliers, complete with medieval cloister and garden, is a truly breathtaking venue. Participants can enjoy taking a bite out of organic, local and seasonal dishes, taking part in a cookery class hosted by a top chef, savouring a selection of rums and even a swag barbecue – all to the sound of great music! For this year’s 9th edition, the Cooksound Festival will be paying tribute to funk, groove, soul and Afro-American sounds.
