L'Alhambra is an Art et Essai cinema with Young Audiences, Heritage/Repertory and Research & Discovery labels, making the transmission of knowledge and awareness of cinema for all audiences a central part of its project.
An art-house cinema in Marseille's northern suburbs
Built in 1928, the Alhambra reopened its doors in 1990 after being renovated by the City of Marseille. Its facade is characteristic of 1930s cinemas and opens onto Place Raphel in Saint-Henri, on the Estaque side of the 16th arrondissement.
Classified as an Art et Essai cinema, with labels for Young Audiences, Heritage/Repertory and Research and Discovery, it boasts a 232-seat auditorium with a 12 m x 7 m screen, reception halls and an exhibition area. The Alhambra also has space for film-making workshops: a shooting studio, an editing room, a small projection room and a MashUp room.
Every year, the Alhambra organizes around 1,200 film screenings, attracting 60,000 spectators. Numerous events are organized: ciné-repas, ciné-concerts, debates, the annual Directors' Fortnight at the end of May, just after Cannes, the Télérama adult and young audience festivals, etc. In addition, training courses, residencies and a wide range of events take place here.
The cinema has been awarded the Tourisme et Handicap (hearing and mental) label.
The Cinéma Alhambra is accessible to PRMs.
