The mission of the Archives nationales d'outre-mer (ANOM) is to preserve, communicate and promote archives relating to the former French colonies from the 16th to the 20th century.
Located on the Aix-en-Provence university campus since 1966, the Archives nationales d'outre-mer (ANOM) preserves and makes available the archives of the ministries that were responsible for the French colonial empire from the 17th to the 20th centuries, as well as the fonds transferred from the former colonies when they became independent. A map library, an icon library, a library and private archive collections relating to the French overseas territories complete these collections. In all, 38 linear kilometres of archives!
The ANOM is a key resource and memory centre for understanding the history of colonisation and decolonisation. It offers cultural and educational programmes for as many people as possible, and welcomes schoolchildren throughout the year.
Consultation of the archives is free of charge and requires registration during opening hours.
