From the village of Les Thuiles onwards, the river becomes stronger and the eddies more impressive.
After a kilometre of gravel pit, the gorges open up before us, with a horizon that seems to be getting closer, then nothing in front of it. The steep gradient of this section creates a sense of tipping over, with a series of class II and III rapids.
As far as La Fresquière, the route becomes sportier, and the raft picks up speed, lifted by the powerful waves and slaloming between the rocks and water holes under the orders of the guide. Thrills, splashes and giggles guaranteed.
Then there are the routes that have made the river famous: the ‘ex-infranchissables du haut’, from the La Fresquière bridge to Le Martinet.
Each season, the route changes, giving the Ubaye its untamed character.
Summer is the perfect time to try it out. The scenery is magnificent: you have time to take advantage of the potential of a calm, serene river. Swim, jump off the rocks and learn about river techniques and safety rules.
