We're lucky enough to have the PELAGOS sanctuary right in front of us, and in summer the conditions are just right for whale watching and tuna hunting.
We glide gently over the water under reduced sail 30 km offshore, so you have to be patient, but it's truly magical. Encounters with dolphins, blue, Risso... pilot whales, sperm whales and the Mediterranean whale, the fin whale.
As we sail, we'll come across tuna hunts numbering in the hundreds!
From 2 to 4 days you can broaden your horizons by setting sail to the EAST, along the Ile Verte, the western border of the Calanques National Park. We discover the Var coast, Bandol Sanary, and spend the night in the superb calanque of Port d'Alon.
Heading south-east for the Embiez islands, a piece of Brittany in the Mediterranean. We pass Cap Sicié, where it's not unusual to see dolphins.
We have to sail along the continental shelf, which marks the descent to the deep sea, so as to be in the best position to appreciate the large cetaceans.
Depending on the conditions, we'll head east down the coast to sail alongside the dolphins and catch a glimpse of the ton hunters and all the other fauna, such as moonfish and mobula rays, the Mediterranean version of the great remontas. There are also turtles that come to the surface to breathe, so we're in tune with nature, and the quality of what we see will be proportional to our vigilance on the surface.
