On the hill of Castellan, the discovery path of the park Dinosaur'Istres invites you in a journey through time, to meet the dinosaurs.
A DISCOVERY TRAIL ON THE TRACKS OF THE DINOSAURS
Tens of millions of years ago, Provence was home to large populations of dinosaurs. Numerous sites have been unearthed, and egg and bone fossils have been unearthed throughout the region.
It is this distant past that the Dinosaur'Istres park invites into the present. A discovery trail allows visitors to admire life-size reconstructions of some twenty different species. Nearly 45 dinosaurs are displayed along the path, in scenes that are strikingly realistic. The reptiles are presented in chronological order of appearance on Earth, and explanatory panels allow everyone to become familiar with the specificities and secrets of each species.
A fun and educational walk awaits young and old alike, for an unforgettable morning or afternoon with the family!
VISITS AND ACTIVITIES IN ALL SEASONS
The route can be followed freely and independently. The explanatory panels provide all the information you need.
You can also extend and enrich the Dinosaur'Istres experience by taking part in the many activities and guided tours organized throughout the year by the Tourist Office. You can also attend the various conferences scheduled.
Game tours on the theme of paleontology are aimed at the youngest. The treasure hunts "1, 2, 3 play the little paleontologist" invite you to go on an adventure with your family, and learn more about dinosaurs while having fun. These games are available for free at the Tourist Office.
A REMARKABLE HISTORICAL AND NATURAL SITE
The Castellan hill was home to a Celtic oppidum and a Gallo-Roman village in ancient times. It is also home to a remarkable ecosystem, emblematic of the fauna and flora of Provence. The site is bathed in the west, north and east by the Etang de l'Olivier.
This site has been entirely preserved and has kept its wild character. A real green lung in the heart of the city of Istres, Dinosaur'Istres also allows you to discover the richness of the Mediterranean biodiversity.
FREE ACCESS ALL YEAR LONG
Dinosaur'Istres is open all year round, and is accessible free of charge to Istres residents and visitors. The discovery trail can be walked freely, in complete autonomy.
You can easily park near the park:
- in the immediate vicinity, on the parking lot of the city hall,
- 10 minutes on foot, in the Carmes and Victor Hugo underground parking lots
We invite you to bring appropriate shoes (sneakers or walking shoes), and to bring water, a hat and sunglasses in summer.
