Beautiful hike starting at the Chambran carpark, towards a glacial lake. Plan on 2¾ hour to get there (5-hour round trip).
This hike is best starting at the Chambran chalets, in the Pelvoux district, where there is a very good refreshment bar and restaurant.
The climb is mainly through the pastures of the Eychauda valley.
Good walking shoes are advised, particularly if you wish to go slightly higher than the Euchauda lake, the most beautiful glacial lake in the area.
At the beginning of the summer, the lake may still be frozen with blocks of ice floating on the surface. It can be a bit chilly, so make sure you have an extra layer to put on after the walk up.
What is the appeal? Grandiose setting, discovering rich and varied fauna and flora and a magnificent panorama.
Topo: Carte IGN 3536 OT3436 et 3535
Start point: Chambran chalets at 1700 m
Access: From Briançon, take the RN94 towards Gap.
After driving through Prelles, turn right onto the D4 that leads to Les Vigneaux. This road is known as "Les Traverses". From Le Sarret, in Pelvoux a road heads up to the Chambran chalets (district flocks) where you should park.
Marking: From the Chambran chalets, the footpath leads to the Eychauda lake. Take the forestry path after the refreshment bar on the left bank of the Eychauda stream. Pass the path that climbs to the right and take the path towards the pastures after the hut. The path climbs and zigzags through a zone of shingle then in the pastures. The lake is magnificent...it is one of the largest in the Briançon area.
