Founded by American artist and philanthropist Jerome Hill (1905-1972), the Camargo Foundation encourages creativity, research and experimentation through its international residency programme for artists, scholars and thinkers.
Since 1971, Camargo has hosted nearly 1,000 people in residence working in the arts, humanities and social sciences from around the world. Located in Cassis, on the Mediterranean coast, the Foundation offers time and space in a quality environment to think, create and exchange.

The programming of the residencies is carried out either by the Foundation alone, as in the case of the main Camargo Programme, or in partnership.

In 2018, the Camargo Foundation obtained the "Maison des Illustres" label, awarded by the Ministry of Culture to recognise the homes of people who have contributed to history, the arts and culture in general in France. The label supports the Camargo Foundation in its mission to promote the artistic and cultural heritage of its founder Jerome Hill.
