Located high above the old town, the 11th-century Chapelle des Pénitents Noirs has been home to Aubagne's contemporary art center since 2011.
More than just an exhibition space, Les Pénitents Noirs offers visitors an immersion in contemporary art, supported by cultural mediation activities (guided tours, art workshops for schools and adults, etc.).
Les Pénitents Noirs also organizes off-site exhibitions. They are based on the simple desire to create links. Their aim is to bring together local residents, artists and a public of initiates who are far removed from their usual respective worlds. In short, inviting an artist to exhibit in an unfamiliar venue, inviting the public to see an exhibition just a stone's throw away, and bringing them together.
Opening hours depend on the exhibition.
