For many years, Jean Janssis has presented his photographs in Arles during the Rencontres. It's at Renzo Wieder, where he's been exhibiting since 2018, that he'll be unveiling his new, previously unpublished images.
Large gum bichromate prints on etching paper, imbued with sensuality and emotion. Jean Janssis photographs from the heart, loving the people who pose for him. His eye is nourished by a reflection on life, youth, beauty and the passing of time. His work is timeless, drawing on the great themes of literature, from Greek tragedy to the most contemporary authors: love and death, passion, desire... He is the architect who composes and scaffolds, the choreographer who captures movement, the sculptor who maneuvers. He is the craftsman, the blacksmith of his images. There is something of the nature of fire in Jean Janssis' work. Jean Janssis was born in 1953, and lives and works in Liège. His photographs are exhibited throughout Europe, and form part of major public and private collections.
