The Garonne is an excellent year-round spot, appreciated for its diversity of conditions. However, the way you launch depends on your practice:
- Kitesurfing
The configuration of the site and current regulations do not allow independent kitesurfers to launch freely from the beach.
Taking off from the Club Nautique du Pradet is forbidden all year round. The only possible launch is from the sand of the Garonne, below the glacier.
However, self-launching is also prohibited.
The only way to go kitesurfing in Le Pradet is to go through an approved structure: Pradet Kite - 06 10 71 25 20
Book a supervised session: lesson or drop-off, with or without rental. The team will guide you to the best spot of the day, depending on the weather and swell, for safe and serene sailing.
- Wingfoil
Wingfoil is permitted autonomously from the Garonne beach.
However, depending on the season:
Out of season, the club tolerates the launching of wings and windsurfers from the club's launches.
In season, this tolerance no longer applies: launching from the beach is compulsory.
Weather conditions: advice according to winds
- Mistral / West wind (Onshore): Wind blowing towards the beach, often strong. It creates a marked chop and even waves (1 to 2 m) in excess of 20 knots.
Tip: move up beyond 300 m to benefit from a steadier wind. Proximity to hills = turbulence.
- North/Northwest wind: Very gusty and unstable.
Technical or even dangerous sailing, to be avoided by the inexperienced.
- East wind (offshore): Wind pushing offshore. Flat water, very pleasant for foiling.
Beware: the wind is often gusty and difficult to read from the beach, sheltered by the hills. The return to shore can be technical.
Summer Thermal (South, Side-shore): Arises in the afternoon, sometimes reaching 15 knots. More stable and pleasant wind for all levels.
When sailing, be sure to comply with current regulations, and adapt your session to the day's weather conditions.
