La Maison de l'Espagne in the heart of Aix-en-Provence's old town stands under the arcades of a 13th century cloister and has been showcasing and embodying the Spanish-speaking world since 1998. The centre presents and promotes Hispanic culture in Provence and is on its way to achieving foundation status.
Work will soon be underway to expand and refurbish the centre: plans include a social space and second classroom which should both enhance and compliment the current facilities and allow the team to grow.
La Maison de l'Espagne has something for everyone:
➜ La Ñ school is a DELE exam centre (accreditation awarded by the Instituto Cervantes) running Spanish classes taught by qualified native teachers all year round.
➜ La Academia dance school provides flamenco and las sevillanas classes as well as the most famous Hispanic dance celebrated by La Maison: tango.
➜ Les Causeries des Arcades is becoming an institution with its growing audience of lovers of culture, history and all kinds of subjects.
➜ The centre also hosts theme nights several times a month: wine, food, introduction to a subject, dance and music, painting workshops, nothing and nobody is left out!
➜ La Maison de l'Espagne runs a literature café every Saturday morning in a cosy, social French-Castilian setting with your choice of drink.
