Are you looking for immensity and freedom? Napoleon beach, in the Camargue, offers 10 kilometers of fine sand.

Bathed in the east by the Rhone, Napoleon beach alone sums up the immense and wild character of the Camargue. With 10 kilometers of fine sand, it is a true exception in the Mediterranean. A living space, Napoleon beach has regularly evolved with the currents and storms. To the north, near a sandbank called They de la Gracieuse, lies a stranded ship. This sandbar was formed and stretched throughout the twentieth century, and now houses a small bay renowned for its production of mussels and oysters, the cove of Carteau.

Developments have been made to accommodate visitors, while preserving a natural area of great beauty and fragility. On the dunes run ganivelles, fences made of chestnut wood slats, connected by wire. They contribute to reduce the erosion caused by the wind, and allow a reconstitution of the dune and a rooting of the plants. The dune cordon shelters an abundant fauna and flora, and is colonized by oyats, nicknamed "sand reeds", by immortals, lizards, beetles and rabbits. If you look up to the sky, you can see many species of birds, including waders, seagulls, little terns... Wild camping is forbidden, in order to preserve the landscapes and ecosystems of Napoleon beach.

Swimming is supervised during the summer season, in the delimited area. Sand and water sports can be practiced on site. If you are looking for peace and quiet, you will easily find a less crowded area, even in the height of summer. You can also reach the mouth of the Grand Rhone, during a pleasant walk with your feet in the water.

You can easily park near the beach (paid parking in summer), or take the shuttle that connects the bus station of Istres to the Napoleon beach.
