Le rocher Gafouille has 3 shaded sectors facing north/west. Easy to access, you'll find around forty routes for all levels.
With routes ranging from 2b to 5c for beginners, to more technical and athletic routes from 6b to 8A, some of which have overhangs and finger holds, this limestone rock is still great fun to climb (easy routes with patina).
- Sector 1A: 6 new vertical routes from 6b to 7A, 20m long, some with switchbacks and finger holds.
Sector 1B left: 24 routes of around 30m, from 4 to 8A
- Sector 2 - center: 7 routes from 6b to 7b
- Sector 3 - right: ideal for beginners, from 2b to 5c.
Exposure: north / west
Recommended period: May to October
Altitude: 1300 m
Approach walk: 5 minutes
Access: From Briançon, head for the heights of Villard Saint Pancrace in the direction of Les Ayes, then take a sharp left at the tiny square: rue de la Croix de Bretagne. A damaged road rises up through the last houses and fields to a large parking lot (MECS de la Guisane). Park and follow the track up towards the Croix de Bretagne fort.
After about 100 m, take a smaller track on the right, up to a green fence surrounding a drinking water reservoir. The rock is just behind it.
