Balcon du Sniper, on Mont Gaussier in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, has seven climbing routes.
1. La Cabro Negra - COT: 5b
2. Silex est futur - COT: 5c
3. Au bonheur des femmes - COT: 6a+
4. De la douleur à la douceur: - COT: 6b+
5. Gris Verdon - COT: 6c+
6. Homo Natopé - COT: 7a+
7. Drai dans l'pentu: - COT: 7b+
The routes on offer range in difficulty from 5b to 7b+.
There are several roadside car parks on the D5 towards Maussane-les-Alpilles.
The ‘Escalade dans les Alpilles’ guidebook is available from Alpilles en Provence Tourist Offices (subject to availability).
In summer, forest areas are more prone to fire. To protect walkers and sites, access to the Bouches-du-Rhône mountains, including the Alpilles, is regulated from 1 June to 30 September.
The danger levels are determined daily for each forest area. They can be consulted from 6 p.m. for the following day at: www.risque-prevention-incendie.fr/13
