Since 2012, the City of Martigues has been awarded, on the proposal of the National Council of Cities and Countries of Art and History, the City of Art and History label. An opportunity for everyone to visit all the treasures of Martigues.
The network of Cities and Countries of Art and History now includes 166 Cities or Countries of Art and History, including 58 Countries of Art and History.
Far from the image of the Venice of Provence conveyed by popular song, the cultural project of Martigues bears the image of a modern city, marked since the 1930s by an industrial history, which has left its mark on landscapes where nature and water are very present (Etang de Berre).
The inhabitants are at the heart of the cultural project of Martigues and more broadly of its humanist project of an ancestral good life and a co-production of the city.
