Chemin des Jonquières, 13600 La Ciotat
This hiking route allows you to admire geological curiosities such as the natural bridge, the cat's tooth, the mushroom and the elephant's head in an exceptional setting above the highest maritime cliffs in France.
From the start area, walk down the road for about 100 metres to turn right up the Chemin des Jonquières.
After 250 metres, leave the road on the left (the Calanques National Park sign is 20 metres away), to start the climb to the Grande Tête (and after crossing the Route des Crêtes). There is a magnificent view over the bay of La Ciotat and the Pont Naturel. The path becomes marked (yellow).
Join the Semaphore and begin the crossing of the Soubeyranes ridges.
Pass by the Grande Tête, the highest maritime cliff in France (399 metres).
Follow the yellow markers with a succession of small bumps with numerous exceptional viewpoints. Some geological curiosities can be observed, such as the mushroom or the elephant's head.
Go back to the mushroom, then leave the marked path (yellow) and take a short passage on the road (200 metres).
Turn left (barrier) towards the Bau Rous, then go down on your right towards the Vallon de Mallombre (small scree). Climb a small rise on the right to go along a whole climbing area. Pass the fox shelter, the Grail cave, the famous natural bridge and further down, the dent du chat.
200 metres after the Cat's Tooth, turn left to find (after 300 metres) a tarmac section that returns to the starting point.
