Formerly known as Lan, this peak, seen from Barcelonnette, has a distinctive resemblance to a hat. It is tempting to climb it to enjoy the sweeping views afforded by its central position in Ubaye.
From the Sauze 1700 ski resort, the route rises gradually, alternating between wooded passages and grassy slopes, to reach the summit of the Chapeau de Gendarme. The return journey takes the form of a loop, winding its way through a vast wooded area.
