Head for the Col de Vars for a memorable climb by bike in the Alps. At over 2,108 m in altitude and with over 1,000 m of difference in height, this circuit will give you a hard time, we admit.
With a difference in altitude of more than 1,000 metres on each side, the Col de Vars is a major Alpine pass, ‘one of the toughest along with the Parpaillon, Izoard and Galibier’, according to the Profils Dolin, France's leading cycling guides.
This pass has been climbed many times by Tour de France riders.
A very gentle climb up to Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye, the pass has a few surprises in store on the final 5km ramp with an average gradient of 10%, where it's best not to put your foot down. This final stretch keeps many cyclists busy for over half an hour!
Pedal amidst majestic mountains and capped damselflies, the unique geological formations that give the mountains their relief.
A panoramic view of the breathtaking Alpine scenery awaits you at the summit: selfie compulsory to immortalise this small victory.
