Combe Chauve en VTT - Guillestre

Very difficult
  • This is the most beautiful view in the Guillestrois region! Combe Chauve is the highest point in the area, and it's quite a challenge to tackle the 1000m of ascent: the climb, though long, is rolling, and the descent is manageable with a bit of technique!

  • From the Guillestre Tourist Office, take the road towards Queyras. Just before the small "Porteau" bridge on the outskirts of Guillestre, take the road to the right and keep going. This turns into the Combe Chauve forest track, which winds its way up through the undergrowth to the place known as "Grand Pré".

Le Grand Pré, the highest point of the route just above a cistern, is particularly well placed for your snack break before the return journey.
Now it's time for the descent, which is all singles, skill and technique! It starts on a narrow path to the right of the piste, some 400m before you reach Grand Pré.
After just a few minutes, turn right onto a path that first runs through undergrowth, then continues downhill with numerous singles, crossing the piste three times.
At the 3rd junction with the track, take it to the left for 100 m, then take the right-hand path again, winding up to cross the rue du pied du bois, on the heights of Guillestre.
Continue straight ahead through the housing estate, crossing the Queyras departmental road to return to the town center.
