The Verdon is famous for its gorges, lakes and villages, but do we really know its history and secrets? With every pedal movement, the landscape reveals details that give us a better appreciation of the region and a glimpse of life as it used to be.
Discover the wonders of the Sainte-Croix lake, starting at the Galetas bridge, where you can see the entrance to the famous Verdon Gorges. If you feel like it, stop off at the village of Les Salles-sur-Verdon. Although recently created, it has retained its authentic charm, particularly through the remains of the old village, carefully relocated and preserved.
The road then takes you to Aiguines, a picturesque village where history blends with the landscape. The castle dominates the village, offering a breathtaking view, while the chapel invites you to discover an exceptional vantage point. A diversion to the turners' museum and craftsmen's workshops will give you an insight into local craftsmanship. From here, the island of Costebelle is revealed in the lake, a remnant of an ancient hill in the valley.
Once you've left Aiguines, take the road that winds its way up the hills, with sublime views to the south. This wild road takes you to the last village on the lakeshore: Bauduen. The descent to this village is truly enchanting, and the view over the bay, with its peacefully moored sailing boats, will fill you with wonder. Take a side trip and stroll through this secret little port, sheltered and intimate, where the cool, narrow streets invite you to relax.
A few kilometres further on, a small road leads you to Sulagran, an idyllic spot for a refreshing swim, owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral.
If you feel like exploring further, continue along the Eouvières massif. It's here that you can enjoy the crystal-clear waters of the lake one last time, in a natural and soothing setting.
