The Sentier littoral du Cap Martin, also known as the Sentier des douaniers or the Promenade Le Corbusier, is a wonderful hiking trail nestled on Cap Martin, linking the Carnolès and Cabbé districts. This 4.7-kilometer one-way hike, with a modest difference in altitude of around 50 meters, is easy to access, making it ideal for families.
Along the way, you'll discover a wealth of Mediterranean flora and fauna, from pebble beaches to wild rocks and fragrant pine groves. A pleasant walk in all seasons. The route starts at Carnolès station, a convenient starting point for those who prefer the train; it's also easy to get to from Menton via the seafront. This route is a must if you want to admire the spectacular coastal scenery, combining the spray of turquoise waters and the shade of pine forests.
The course
Your adventure begins at the Carnolès train station (Av. François de Monléon), from where you head south towards the sea, before turning right onto the Promenade du Cap to join Avenue Winston Churchill, which leads to Carnolès beach. Alternatively, you can drive along the seafront from Menton. Go through the Cap Martin arch and continue along avenue Churchill via markers 1 and 2 to the parking lots. Go past the second parking lot towards the path on your left, where a bust of Le Corbusier stands watch. You'll soon reach the tip of Cap Martin at marker 3. Gaze out over the bay of Menton and its landscape as far as Bordighera. Once you've passed the tip of the Cap, you'll have a panoramic view of Monaco.
Here, you'll follow a well-marked coastal path along the shoreline, offering breathtaking sea views. As you head east, you'll be enchanted by the contrast between the blue waters and the bright green vegetation. After passing the point, the path enters a forest offering shade and coolness, before passing the majestic pergola of the Villa Cypris, an architectural gem. At markers 6 and 7, stairs lead up to the Cap Martin plateau. Take the vertiginous footbridge under the railroad to discover the Cap Moderne site. This unique architectural ensemble includes Eileen Gray's Villa E-1027 and Le Corbusier's famous cabanon. Continue towards marker 8 along the path overlooking Plage du Buse. Fancy a swim? Finally, the path takes you directly to the Roquebrune train station, the final point of this escapade. You can cross the bridge to continue along the path towards Monaco.
