The pretty chapel erected at the top of its rocky peak is dedicated to Saint Sixtus, very popular in the diocese of Embrun. Sixtus II was the 24th bishop of Rome, elected pope in 257 and martyred in 258 with six of his deacons. Every year, a procession takes place during a long walk from the church with crosses and banners.
The chapel was restored in 1987 by the inhabitants. Head towards the hamlet and, at the first intersection, take the road leading off to the left. Continue on this road which soon becomes a track. The objective of the walk is in sight: the chapel of Saint Sixtus perched on the top of the marl.
2. Once past the oratory, continue on the downhill track on the left, which leads to the hamlet of Les Achards. Cross the hamlet to reach the fields. The track becomes green as you cross the fields and leads to a fence. Cross the fence (be careful to close it) and continue along this track to the pass. It crosses successively ravines, forest environments and some pastures to lead to the pass
3. Go over a fence and then turn left on a pretty path to reach the Chapelle Saint Sixte. Overlooking the Durance valley to the north and the Bréziers valley to the south. The Pic de Bure is revealed between the mountains of Puy Cervier and St Maurice. Return along the same path until you reach the oratory intersection
4. Take the track on the left. This ascending, rocky track soon becomes a grassy farm track across fields. It passes close to the sheepfold
5. At the crossroads, take the right-hand track leading to the hamlet of Champsaurs. Cross it to reach the initial car park.
>> Recommendations
Crossing pastures and undergrowth: carefully follow the yellow markings! In addition, because of the many herds in the pastures, make sure to close the gates and keep the dogs on a lead.
