Are you tempted by a daring hillside trail above the Gorges du Guil?
From the main town of Eygliers, the fortified village of Mont-Dauphin looks out over the Font d'Eygliers. Follow the south-facing balcony road overlooking the Guil. On the other bank, you can see Guillestre perched on its plateau. The trail will rise, your muscles will tingle and your balance will wobble: don't worry, the cable is there if you need it! But before you know it, your eyes will be filled with wonder at the unparalleled view of the Gorges du Guil. Reach the hamlet of Gros, with its bucolic flats and charming chapel. Take the road back down, turning right through the forest towards the highest point of the hike, below La Gardiole. After crossing the Bachas torrent, the descent begins towards the hamlet of Le Coin. This time, your eyes take in the fortified village of Mont-Dauphin. Back to Eygliers and your car, jealous as ever to have been put to rest...
In spring and autumn, conditions are changeable, and even snow-free trails can be icy. So, in the mountains, the reflex to adopt is "go out well equipped". In my bag, I slip or I hang: crampons and poles.
In winter, the right reflexes are: snowshoes, poles, gloves, hat, sun cream and... a survival blanket! Experience is essential, and knowing when to give up is sometimes preferable to taking risks. And if you're new to the mountains, don't hesitate to call in a professional! Before going out, I check the Météo France Montagnes and BERA bulletins (risks and avalanches).
