Head for the Col de Vars, climb up to Ste Catherine and continue on a track (about 30 mins) to leave your vehicle in the Les Couniets car park. The mountain begins right here under your tyres! The hike begins on the bare south-facing slope to reach the ridge of Les Couniets. On the other side, it's refreshing to cross the generous greenery of the Vallon de Laugier and a real pleasure to be on the flat as far as the Col de Serenne. Just above, the Lac des neuf couleurs nestles. The glowing rocks, the ice-blue lake, the green of the grasses, the yellow and orange petals of the flowers... it's aptly named! Follow the cairns through the rock shaped by the ancient glacier. At an altitude of 3169 metres, the summit of La Mortice offers panoramic views of Queyras, Mont Viso, the Écrins and Ubaye with its Aiguilles de Chambeyron. The return journey takes the same route.
